Andrew Amelang

Andrew started playing string bass in a school orchestra over 40 years ago and quickly moved to electric bass, playing jazz, rock, pop, and show tunes in a variety of rock groups, stage bands, theater orchestras, jazz combos, and worship bands. A versatile multi-instrumentalist, Andrew also plays drums and guitar, and sneaks time on the piano whenever Cheryl's not around.

Andrew has been involved with live sound reinforcement and recording engineering almost as long as he's been playing bass, and at various times has owned a live sound reinforcement company (in Nashville) and a 32-track digital recording studio (in Houston, back in the ADAT days...).

In college, Andrew started playing drums "to be a better bass player" and enjoyed it so much he just kept right on playing. Later in life (mid-30s - you're never too old!), Andrew found a use for that acoustic guitar he'd been carrying around since he was a kid, and began leading worship from the acoustic, working with Baptist, Presbyterian, and Vineyard churches, as well as home fellowships.

More recently, Andrew has been seen around the Brenham musical theater scene, accompanying the Blinn College Musical Theater Ensemble for two years, playing in the pit orchestra for Brenham High School's productions of Legally Blonde and Bye, Bye Birdie, and in September 2015 he'll be appearing in Unity Theater's production of Always... Patsy Cline.

At BMA, Andrew teaches bass guitar, adult beginner drums, and beginner guitar, and occasionally works with Cheryl or John on recording projects. Andrew also serves as Operations Manager, overseeing business operations for the Academy.
